Where British snacks come from

British snacks are easier to find in the United States than South African ones, and harder to find in the version you actually want. Most British chocolate sold in American stores is made under licence to a different recipe. It is legally the same brand and it does not taste the same, which is the single most common complaint we hear from British expats in the USA.

So when our British snack boxes launch, everything in them will be the version sold in Britain rather than the American-made equivalent. Cadbury Dairy Milk to the British recipe. Walkers rather than the American crisp with the closest flavour. McVitie's digestives from the tin they are actually sold in.

We are aiming at the things that do not travel well through ordinary import channels: chocolate digestives, Hobnobs, Curly Wurly, Wine Gums, Quality Street at Christmas, and a decent bag of proper tea. If you have moved from the UK to the United States or Canada and there is something you cannot get hold of, tell us before we finalise the range.

Everything will ship the same way our South African boxes do, from within the US, as a domestic parcel with no customs form and no duty to pay on arrival. US delivery in seven to ten business days, Canada in ten to fourteen.

Why does British chocolate taste different in America?

Cadbury products sold in the United States are made under licence by a different manufacturer to a different recipe, with a different milk process and fat content. The brand is the same and the bar is not. Everything we bring in will be UK retail stock, so it is the recipe sold in Britain.

When do the British snack boxes launch?

Very soon. We will email everyone on the list the day British boxes go on sale.

Will you ship British snacks to Canada?

Yes. British boxes will ship to both the United States and Canada from within the US, on the same rates as our South African boxes.
